David Babikian is a lifelong resident of the Syracuse area. After graduating from Butler University in Indianapolis, he made the choice to return home in order to work and raise his family. Babikian became active in town government after the announcement of the Coal Gasification Plant, which would have brought heavy industry to Jamesville. Babikian garnered support for candidates Ed Michalenko, Vicki Baker, Lorene Dadey and Kerry Mannion, all whom worked to defeat the plan.
I will accept the responsibility of a position on Town Board by being fully informed on all issues. And I will never substitute a personal opinion for the will of all the people.
Dave and his wife are both teachers. They live with their 2 children in Jamesville. At Cicero North Syracuse High School, David Babikian serves on numerous committees and is a mock-trial advisor. In the classroom, he specializes in Global History.
I love teaching about the formation of governments from the Ancient Greeks and Ancient Romans through the Magna Carta and the Enlightenment thinkers, showing the kids why our government is so strong and well thought out.
Babikian has also proven his leadership abilities as a lacrosse coach.
One thing I’ve learned is that everyone wants to fit in -- and deep down everyone wants to see others succeed. When the weakest player, the one who usually sits on the bench, gets the ball, everyone cheers for that kid to score. As a coach, it’s a great feeling to see a community like that, one that you fostered.
As a candidate for the DeWitt Town Board, Babikian is committed to the same sense of service and community:
- Promoting green development
- Spending the time and energy needed to do the job, while not spending the tax payers’ dollars irresponsibly
- Researching and addressing an expansion of the Town of DeWitt park facilities.
